IPSoc MEMBERSHIP DETAILS

If you would like to apply for, or renew your, membership, please complete the form below. Please make sure this is completed each year to confirm your status as a member.

Individual membership of IPSoc is open (subject to committee approval) to any:

  • Solicitor (qualified by any SRA approved route of qualification) of less than 10 years’ post qualification experience;

  • Barrister of less than 12 years' call;

  • Chartered Trade Mark Attorney with up to 8 years' post qualification experience;

  • Chartered UK or European Patent Attorney with up to 8 years' post qualification experience (this will be calculated from either the EPA or CPA qualification, whichever was attained most recently);

  • Member of the Institute of Legal Executives of up to and including 10 years' admission.

Any person fulfilling the above criteria who wishes to join IPSoc must practise in the UK, whether in private practice or in-house.

Applications for membership from individuals falling outside of the criteria set out above will be considered by the Committee on a case-by-case basis and the Committee will use its discretion to determine whether to approve the application.

The individual membership fee (£60 for private practice members, £20 for in-house members) is payable upon joining and for membership to continue must be renewed on an annual basis. Applications for membership may be made at any time; however there is no reduction to the fee payable for applications made during the course of the membership year, which runs from 1 December to 30 November. If you wish to do a group sign up through your firm, please do request an invoice. Should you require a receipt for any payment, please send a request to treasurer@ipsoc.org; a receipt will be issued upon funds being cleared in IPSoc's bank account.

Personal Data

Your personal data will be received and processed by IPSoc for membership administration and related purposes. This data may be processed on the electronic systems of IPSoc committee members and law firms, barristers’ chambers or other employers of IPSoc committee members. Such processing is necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by IPSoc, as set out in the Constitution of IPSoc, namely to advance its members' education and training in all matters relating to their practice as intellectual property practitioners and to encourage social interaction amongst its members. By attending IPSoc events you consent to these being used by IPSoc for marketing and publicity on our website, social media and/or in any third party publication.
